KUCHING, Jan 22: State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen has volunteered to take over the position of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman from Lo Khere Chiang starting next Monday.

“I am giving him (Lo) one week to clear his stuff, tender his resignation to the state government and pass over the duty to me,” Chong told a press conference today.

Chong said Lo had been MPP chairman for eight years but was still unable carry out his duty to improve the traffic congestion problem at 7th Mile Bazaar.

“He (Lo) even asked a state assemblyman (Chong is also Kota Sentosa assemblyman) to do his work. It means he himself admits that he doesn’t fit his job.”

Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching MP, stressed that it is the duty of the council to provide a better public traffic system.

Lo had reportedly said that Chong had failed his duty as the assemblyman of Kota Sentosa given that the ‘messy traffic issue’ at 7th Mile already existed even before Lo was appointed as MPP chairman and elected as Batu Kitang assemblyman.

Lo even added that Chong should volunteer to have a pay cut since he had not done much for the community in Kota Sentosa.

“Since he (Lo) asked me to do the council’s job, I will come next Monday at 10am to take over the chairmanship. I hope he (Lo) won’t stay on forever but still ask others to do his job.”

Chong said he doesn’t mind not getting paid for it and he would leave it to Lo to decide whether he wants to be continued to be paid or not.
