KUCHING, Dec 2: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chief Chong Chieng Jen calls on the police to take immediate action to address the illegal hanging of campaign banners in the Batu Kawah constituency.

Chong said they were informed that this was done along Jalan Kampung Stapok.

According to Chong, the banner with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) logo and an ‘X’ mark next to it is clearly against the election law.

“We have also taken photographs of the banner. It may constitute an election offense which may even nullify the result in Batu Kawah, if the GPS candidate for Batu Kawah wins the seat,” he told reporters after a press conference to announce Sarawak DAP candidates contesting in Kuching at its DAP headquarters here today.

Meanwhile, commenting on the DAP candidate for Batu Kawah, Dr Kelvin Yii, Chong said that Dr Yii’s experience, knowledge, and expertise in chairing the Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSSC) on health, science and innovation at the national level is very much needed and helpful to the State if he is given the chance to be in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

“As such, after much consideration, we decided to field him to take on the advisor of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), who is Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, hopefully to replace him,” he added. — DayakDaily
