Chinese New Year: White pomfret among 12 items listed under price control scheme

KUCHING, Jan 26: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has listed 12 items under the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP), which will be in effect from January 25 to February 2, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.

The items are white pomfret, weighing between 200g and 400g; white shrimp, comprising between 41 and 60 pieces per kg; red chilis; imported round cabbages from Indonesia and China (excluding Beijing cabbage); carrots; white radish; potatoes from China; old ginger (imported); chicken wings; live pigs; pig intestines; and pork (meat and fat).

According to a press release by KPDN Sarawak, the 2025 CNY SHMMP will be implemented through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011.

Price checks can be done on the KPDN website at www.kpdn.gov.my.

“KPDN Sarawak enforcement officers have inspected 12,020 premises since January 1 until Jan 23, 2025, which resulted in 198 cases involving compound value amounting to RM35,900 and confiscation amounting to RM1,142,480.31,” it said.

Earlier today, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, accompanied by KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin, conducted a walkabout at Emart Boulevard Kuching to inspect the price scheme compliance. — DayakDaily
