KUCHING, Jan 9: Chinese independent schools, with their rich traditions and commitment to academic excellence, have played a pivotal role in shaping Sarawak’s education landscape.
In a news report by TVS, Deputy Minister of Education and Innovation Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee acknowledged that these schools offer valuable insights and perspectives that enrich and drive Sarawak’s education system.
“Chinese independent schools’ ongoing commitment to producing well-rounded students—those who excel academically while also embodying strong moral values—has made a significant contribution to Sarawak’s social development,” he said.
Dr Annuar’s remarks were delivered through a speech read by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD), Adana Jed, during a sharing session with Chung Hua Middle School No. 3 today.
Beyond academic achievement, he emphasised the importance of character development and moral values among students, particularly in Sarawak schools, including Chinese independent schools.
“We must prepare students with responsible values, mutual care, and ethics to foster a positive community.
“Additionally, it is essential to explore collaborations to nurture students who have the potential to become innovative leaders for both Sarawak and the nation in the future,” he added.
Dr Annuar also underscored the Sarawak government’s commitment, through MEITD, to ensuring that all educational institutions, regardless of background or history, receive the necessary support to provide quality education to all children in Sarawak.
He stressed the importance of cooperation across all sectors to integrate the strengths of diverse educational approaches, thereby creating a more resilient and adaptive education system.
“This aligns with one of the three core pillars of the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, specifically Social Inclusivity, as clearly outlined in the plan,” he added. — DayakDaily
