KUCHING, March 15: Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions president Dato Richard Wee has slammed Datuk Seri Rina Harun’s recent call for vernacular schools to be shut down.
Wee said such an extreme remark by Rina, who is former Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, reflects her lack of educational concepts and culture.
He said her statement not only angers all ethnic groups who value education, but also shows her ignorance of the constitution that formed Malaysia six decades ago.
Meanwhile, Wee urged the Federal government to condemn the development of such provocative and extreme remarks to show Malaysians a clear national political direction.
He also held that politicians who seek political capital to improve their personal image by hyping up sensitive issues must be punished through legal channels. — DayakDaily
