KUCHING, Aug 18: Leading global clean energy player LONGi has announced its commitment to making Sarawak a regional hub for green energy innovation.
According to TVS, this followed LONGi founder and chief technology officer Li Zhenguo’s visit to Sarawak to reaffirm the company’s long-term commitment to the State’s leadership.
“We are now entering a transition phase and opening a new chapter of operations in Malaysia. Our focus is not only on being a production hub, but also on becoming a regional innovation centre,” he said.
He said this during a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today.
He explained that LONGi has been operating in Kuching for nearly a decade with 12 main factories and a workforce that once peaked at over 6,000 people.
“From a small plant, we have grown thanks to the stability of the State’s governance and the dedication of the local workforce,” he said.
However, he noted that the company had also faced challenges in the past two to three years due to changes in trade policies and global geopolitical uncertainties.
To ensure sustainable operations, LONGi is currently restructuring to become more resilient, comply with international standards, and remain competitive in the United States and other markets.
