KUCHING, March 12: Sarawak Federation of Chinese Women Association “Bright Pearl Shines on Cat City” Traditional Cheongsam Competition and Gala Dinner will be postponed to the second half of the year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sarawak Federation of Chinese Women Association president Liew Chiew Ing said the preparation works for the event had already started in September last year, and they had also met with Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, on the matter of venue.

“Since the pandemic could not be dissipated anytime soon, the meeting unanimously agreed that the event be postponed based on safety concerns during the last meeting last year,” she said in a press statement today.

Liew noted the programme will be held together with the association’s 38th anniversary celebration and Website Showcase Ceremony event which is later this year.

According to her, a similar event was held by the association last year in conjunction with the International Women’s Day, to promote Chinese culture, and encourage the other ethnic groups to showcase their traditional costumes and culture as well as to enhance inter-ethnic relationships.

“This year is the 38th anniversary of the establishment of the Association, and in conjunction with the anniversary, we have decided to hold the celebration together while introducing the Association’s official website,” she added. — DayakDaily
