KUCHING, April 23: Sarawakian youths can have a taste of the American Dream by following two exchange programmes that are currently opened for application.

One of them is the KL-YES programme for Form 5 students in 2019 and the other 2019 YSEALI Academic Fellowship.

In the KL-YES initiative, the successful applicants can learn more about new cultures, share about things Malaysia and learn how to influence the lives of people who live on the other side of the planet.

If you’re in Form 5 this year and have six months to spare to explore new cultures and broaden your knowledge as a global citizen, you have one week left to fill in your application and stand a chance to be part of the YES ’20 batch of Malaysians heading to the United States in January next year.

The deadline to join the programme is April 30. Those interested can apply here https://www.afsmas.org/kl-yes-program/#afs-nav-requirements

As for the fellowship programme, it is about bringing undergraduates or recent graduates between the ages of 18 and 25 to the United States for a five-week stint on the campus of a US college or university.

The programme includes an academic residency, leadership development, an educational study tour, local community service activities and opportunities to engage with American peers.

While there, those picked will be involved in a civic engagement hosted by the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Kennesaw State University from Sept 21-Oct 26.

Then there is the Environmental Issues and Natural Resource Management hosted by the University of Montana and the East-West Center (Aug 21-Sept 25) and the Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Development hosted by the University of Connecticut and Brown University (Sept 7-Oct 11).
