SIBU, Dec 16: A historic 104-year-old gurdwara on Jalan Awang Ramli Amit sustained damage in a fire last Saturday (Dec 14).
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 4.46pm, and a team from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived at the scene within five minutes.
The fire affected about 40 per cent of the ceiling in the 30-by-40-foot non-permanent wooden structure but did not result in any injuries or casualties.
Operation commander PBK II Omar Ali Saifuddin Enton led the firefighting team, which deployed a single water line from their fire engine and a nearby hydrant to contain the flames and prevent further spread.
The situation was brought under control by 5.10pm.
It is understood that the gurdwara, originally established 104 years ago, was reconstructed in the 1960s.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. āDayakDaily
