KUCHING, Aug 14: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a cargo ship near Tanjung Po on Saturday (Aug 12) for failure to present the original copy of the Domestic Shipping License (DSL).
According to MMEA Sarawak director First Admiral Zin Azman Md Yunus in a statement today, the vessel, which was stopped at about 2.4 nautical miles south of Tanjung Po, is operated by 16 crewmembers, including the skipper, six locals, five Indian nationals, two Myanmar nationals, and three Indonesians aged between 19 and 67 with valid documentations.
“In addition to not having the original DSL, the vessel failed to display the change of captain documentation in the Certificate of Malaysia Registry when inspected.
“The case will be investigated under the Customs Act 1967 (Act 235) for being suspected of committing an offence under Section 58 of the Customs Act 1967, which is submitting an inaccurate cargo manifest,” he said.
He added that the vessel and crew were escorted to Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Complex Jetty (KOMTAS) in Muara Tebas for further investigation.
MMEA welcomes any information from the public on any suspicious activities or maritime crimes by calling them at 082-432544 or 082-432016 (24 hours). — DayakDaily
