KUCHING, Sept 14: The Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) today welcomes capable individualis to start the Sarawak Consumers’ Association in Sarawak.
“Personally, if you were to ask me, I think we will welcome it if there is anyone who wish to have that kind of formation. But so far if there is none, we will always do it through our associations that we currently have, that kind of channel.
“I would leave it to the public to actually form that kind of NGO if they wish to. For us, we will support that kind of thing too. Any channel will be welcomed,” SFCA president Dato Richard Wee told a news conference after a dialogue session between Ministry of Domestic Trade and Comsumer Affairs, SFCA and Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) held at SFCA headquarters here today.
On a separate issue, Wee was thankful to the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi for having the opportunity of such a dialogue.
“Like I mentioned earlier, this is the first time that our association has this opportunity to meet the minister and the KSU (secretary general of the ministry).
“Previously we have no engagement of such kind. I mean it is through the good grace of our current minister that we are having what we have here today,” he said.
Wee reiterated that such a dialogue session provided the opportunity for both SFCA and ACCCIS members to engage with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.
Meanwhile, Nanta promised that his ministry would look into the matters which were raised by both SFCA ACCCIS at the dialogue session.
Among the issues raised by SFCA and ACCCIS were to request for the appointment of representatives from the ACCCIS as members of agencies under the ministry, issuance of sugar permit and whether prices of goods and services could be made uniform throughout the country.-DayakDaily
