KUCHING, June 13: Four canopies have been put up to provide shelter for customers queuing and social distancing outside the Kenyalang Park Post Office.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth secretary-general Milton Foo thanked the branch manager Dorothy Sunyan for the immediate action to take care of the needs of customers.
“The canopies were put up at 4 pm yesterday after I visited in the morning.
“We are all glad that the public will no longer need to wait under the hot sun while waiting for their turn,” he told DayakDaily today.
Foo visited the post office yesterday (June 12) after receiving public complaints over having to queue and maintain social distancing outside in the hot sun in order to get into the post office.
Dorothy however informed that the post office had purchased new canopies after the ones rented were due and removed.
As part of the standard operating procedure (SOP) due to Covid-19 and Movement Control Order (MCO), capacity in the post office needed to be reduced and controlled.
As such, only a limited number of customers were allowed to be inside at any one time.
In Sarawak, a lot of people still visit the post offices for other services including renewal of driving license, car and motor insurance and road tax as well as to pay life insurance and utilities bills besides mail related services. —DayakDaily
