KUCHING, Aug 14: Gamers and fans of eSports are invited to participate in the “Kuching Festival Gaming Experience” taking place at the MBKS building this Aug 16-18.

The event hosted by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in partnership with Borneo Gaming Company (BGC) will host tournaments for both mobile and console games, including Mobile Legend: Bang Bang and Tekken 7, starting at 8am.

Other highlights include a retro gaming exhibition on Friday (Aug 16) from 2pm onwards and a VR (virtual reality) showcase.

According to a media release from MBKS today, the event held in conjunction with the Kuching Festival 2019 has been endorsed by the Sarawak E-Sports Association (SESA).

“ESports has been evolving rapidly and gaining popularity as it is now recognised as a form of sport worldwide. It has grown out of a hobby among the youths and there are many talents who have rose to fame internationally,” the statement said.

In line with the council’s policy to connect with youths through healthy activities, MBKS added that the event also aimed to educate youths on the cognitive benefits of gaming.

“It not only helps in building up team spirit, teamwork, cooperation and sportsmanship, but also trains the players to have an improved coordination and problem-solving skills, be alert, responsive and resourceful.

“It will eventually help them to meet the many challenges in life. Apart from that, joining the gaming experience could also help youths release stress and steer them away from social ills and crimes,” MBKS continued.

A total prize of RM5,000 are up for grabs and organisers are expecting over 200 participants this weekend.

Both the registration and the entry for this tournament is free. For more information and updates about the event, do visit BGC’s Facebook at www.facebook.com/borneogamingco/. — DayakDaily
