KUCHING, Jan 23: Cahya Mata Cement Sdn Bhd (Cahya Mata Cement), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (Cahya Mata), is poised to double Sarawak’s clinker production capacity with the development of Clinker Line 2, set for completion by March 2027.
The project, currently undergoing approval, is a collaboration with Sinoma Industry Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd and aims to enhance production efficiency and sustainability.
Once operational, the new clinker line at the Mambong plant will increase clinker production capacity from 900,000 to 1.92 million metric tonnes annually, ensuring self-sufficiency and eliminating the need for imports.
Clinker Line 2 will feature cutting-edge technologies, including a waste heat recovery system capable of generating up to 6MW of power and an advanced dust filtration system that reduces emissions to half the regulatory limit.
The integration of alternative raw materials and fuels will further minimise reliance on fossil fuels, aligning with Cahya Mata Cement’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.
The construction phase, spanning 24 months, is expected to create up to 500 jobs at its peak, providing economic benefits to the local Padawan community.
Upon completion, Cahya Mata Cement will also achieve an annual cement production capacity of 2.4 million metric tonnes, sufficient to meet Sarawak’s demand for the next 15 years.
Since its establishment in 1974, Cahya Mata Cement has been supporting infrastructure projects across the State. The company operates grinding plants in Kuching and Bintulu and marine terminals in Sibu and Miri, ensuring a steady and reliable cement supply.
“Once the (Clinker Line 2) project is approved and construction is completed, Cahya Mata Cement will be well positioned to meet and exceed the construction industry’s demands of Sarawak well into the future,” said Acting Head of Cahya Mata Cement Division, Choong Ju Tang.
As Sarawak continues its rapid development, Cahya Mata Cement remains committed to providing a sustainable and uninterrupted supply of quality cement, reinforcing its role in supporting the State’s growth. –DayakDaily
