Cahya Mata strengthens leadership with key executive appointments across core functions

KUCHING, Dec 2: Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (Cahya Mata) announced a new slate of leadership updates, in line with its long-term strategy to strengthen leadership capabilities and deepen governance across the organisation.

According to a press statement, these include the formal assumption of Azhar Othman to the role of Group chief financial officer, as well as the appointment of Idzam Yuhaizi Mohd Yunos as chief risk officer, Shafik Azlee Mashar as chief internal auditor, Mazlan Tuhiman as chief information officer, and Farid Basir as chief human resources officer.

Reporting to the Group managing director, these additions over the last six months complete the Group’s structural reinforcement, strengthening leadership across core functions: risk, finance, audit, IT transformation, and human resources.

“These appointments reflect Cahya Mata’s commitment to building a modern, well-governed enterprise, one that upholds strong governance, embraces transformation and delivers results with integrity.

“As we deepen our leadership capabilities, we are reinforcing the foundations for sustainable growth, enhanced organisational agility and long-term stakeholder value as the Group advances its strategic priorities and broadens its footprint,” said Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, Group managing director of Cahya Mata.

The effort began with the earlier elevation of Izzam Ibrahim, who joined as Group general counsel in 2022 and now assumes the newly created role of Group chief corporate services officer, responsible for corporate functions, which include, among others, legal, corporate secretarial, ESG and corporate communications.

Azhar Othman will oversee the group’s financial strategy, capital and treasury management, performance tracking, and investor relations. With over 35 years of experience across semiconductors, automotive, property development, technology, and investment holding, he most recently served as Group chief operating officer at Dagang NeXchange Bhd, where he also previously held the chief financial officer role.

Idzam Yuhaizi will lead the Group’s risk management strategy and will serve as Secretary to the Risk Management Committee. With 28 years of experience across automotive, energy, finance, and technology, he previously held senior roles at UMW Corporation and Malakoff Corporation

Shafik Azlee brings over 25 years of experience in internal audit, risk management, telecommunications, IT, and governance. He was previously head of Internal Audit at Maxis Bhd and held senior roles at Robi Axiata Ltd, British American Tobacco, and Global Infrastructure Services.

Mazlan Tuhiman has more than 25 years of experience in IT, digital transformation, and finance, including senior leadership roles in corporate and consulting. Before joining Cahya Mata, he was CEO of Innovation Associates Consulting (DNeX Berhad) and held senior positions at Delaware Consulting, F&N Holdings, and BASF Asia Pacific Center.

Farid Shah Mohd Basir has 31 years of extensive human resources experience across multiple industries and markets. He most recently served as Group chief people officer at MBSB Group and previously held senior HR roles at Telekom Malaysia, Bank Rakyat Malaysia, and Nestlé in Malaysia, South Africa, and the Philippines. – DayakDaily
