KUCHING, Nov 8: Cagamas Bhd, the national mortgage corporation of Malaysia, spent RM46,500 to aid 65 single mothers in their business ventures.
The financial aid is part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to support single mothers through Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) to improve productivity and generating more income.
“As part of Cagamas Bhd’s ongoing CSR efforts, funds were channelled towards the purchase of equipment based on the needs to allow for single mothers among AIM borrowers to emerge as competitive entrepreneurs,” the company said in a statement.
The aid presentation ceremony was held at a hotel here on Monday (Nov 5). Cagamas senior vice-president (Human Capital and Administration) Mazlina Saidi and AIM Sarawak field operation director Mohd Khairul Amri Amihamzah were present.
The recipients were selected from across the state, including from Bau and Kota Samarahan.
In her speech at the event, Mazlina said: “Cagamas was established with the mission to promote the broader spread of home ownership and the growth of the secondary mortgage market in Malaysia.
“Our CSR efforts are driven by a sincere passion to make a difference in people’s lives and emphasis is given to the promotion of sustainability when considering donations with a view to improving society as a whole. This year, we expand our wing of contribution to single mothers in Sarawak.” — DayakDaily
