Cable thieves linked to five other cases in Bintulu caught

BINTULU, Jan 28: Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing 23 kilogrammes of electric cable from an unnumbered house in Sungai Plan, Jalan Tanjung Kidurong on Sunday night.

Bintulu district police chief Superintendent Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspects, aged 27 and 34, were detained by police in a single raid led by Inspector Nixon Malang at 7.30pm.

“The investigation found that the two suspects were in the process of selling it to a buyer,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.


Zulkipli further said that the detention of the two suspects involved five cases of cable theft around Bintulu recently.

“We are actively looking for other cable thieves who are believed to be involved in the reported cases of cable theft in Bintulu,” he said.

Both suspects have been remanded until February 10 to assist police investigations.

“The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to produce any documents during the arrest. —DayakDaily
