KUCHING, Mar 2: The Cabinet Special Committee (Cabcom) presented its latest review findings to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, marking significant progress in financial governance among State agencies and local authorities.

During a courtesy call held at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi today, Cabcom reported that 2025—its third year since establishment on Jan 1, 2023—recorded a 100 per cent submission rate for financial statements and budget estimates, with all 81 reports successfully submitted and reviewed, said a press release.

The presentation covered the financial governance performance of 26 State statutory bodies and 26 local authorities, with emphasis placed on ensuring expenditure aligned with approved strategic plans and budget allocations to promote disciplined, well-planned, and prudent financial management practices.

“However, five State statutory bodies received Qualified Opinions in the 2024 Financial Statements Audit Report under the Auditor General’s Certificate.

“The primary issues identified involved non-compliance with the Malaysian Private Entities Reporting Standard (MPERS), particularly in the recognition of revenue, assets, liabilities, and financial disclosures.

“The affected agencies have been urged to strengthen their financial governance frameworks and ensure full adherence to prescribed accounting standards moving forward,” it said.

Cabcom reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its role as a review and improvement platform, in line with the State’s aspiration to uphold integrity-driven and sustainable public sector management.

The committee was formed with the task of accessing, reviewing, and making recommendations on the annual financial statements and annual budget estimates for State statutory bodies and local authorities before they are presented to the Sarawak State Executive Council (MMKN). — DayakDaily
