KUCHING, Aug 28: The Cabinet meeting on Aug 26, 2022 has agreed to keep the market ceiling price for standard chicken at RM9.40/kg.
According to a Facebook post by Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the unanimous agreement reached by the Council of Ministers also ensured that the price of chicken would not be floated in the market, much to the chagrin of a few parties.
The post revealed that more information about the decision to continue setting the ceiling price for standard chicken throughout the country will be announced following the meeting of the Special Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation tomorrow.
Meanwhile, on Thursday (Aug 25), Special Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa, stated that the government will continue to ensure that the chicken supply for domestic consumers remains sufficient.
According to Annuar, the government has set the ceiling price of chicken at RM9.40/kg until Aug 31 and is providing poultry farmers with a RM1.20/kg subsidy for chicken produced.
He disclosed that RM888 million had already been paid to farmers, and that the special team would make recommendations to the Cabinet on the price of chicken and the policy involving subsidies after Aug 31.
He also said that the special team would need to consider the welfare of the poultry farming industry and strike a balance between a sustainable industry, that is, producers continuing to actively produce a certain number of chickens, and the current domestic needs of approximately 69 million chickens per month. — DayakDaily
