MIRI,March 27: Not only did burglars ransack a house in Desa Pujut, Permyjaya but they also torched it.
However, the flames were minor and alert neighbours managed to extinguish them after seeing smoke plumes coming out from one of the rooms during the wee hours of Wednesday.
A police report on the incident was later lodged by the house owner, an offshore worker.
According to sources, prior to discovery of the smoke, burglars entered the house and carted away a number of items including two mattresses.
Total loss is estimated to be around RM70,000.
At the time of the intrusion, the house owner was away, but he immediately rushed to the house after being alerted about the incident around 2am.
As of the press time, no arrest has been made as police are still investigating. ā DayakDaily
