SERIAN, Dec 28: Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus urges the authorities to take drastic action to solve the flash flood situation at Kampung Siantan and Kampung Hulu Serian here.
A heavy downpour last Sunday (Dec 26) caused flash floods which affected a number of houses in the two villages.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, John visited the affected areas accompanied by Serian Resident Office officer Wee Chung Yee and Serian Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) engineer Darwina Rone.
John reminded residents to be on their guard and take proactive action to prepare for floods during the current monsoon season.
“Residents in Kampung Siantan and Kampung Hulu Serian are reminded to be on guard and take precaution in the eventuality of flood while follow-up action will be taken by the agencies involved,” he said.
Apart from that, Serian Resident Tuah Suni urged government agencies involved to take drastic action to prevent floods following heavy downpours which are expected in the area this week until early January 2022.
Officers from Serian District Council, Serian Division DID, Serian Public Works Department, Fire and Rescue Department and Malaysia Civil Defence Force were among those accompanying John during his walkabout. — DayakDaily
