SIBU, Oct 31: Bukit Assek assemblywoman Irene Chang remembered the late Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Masing had visited her family himself to pay his last respects to her husband Wong Ho Leng.

“I shall always remember him as someone who came straight from the airport to pay his last respects to my late husband, Wong Ho Leng at our home. He was all alone with no bodyguard nor assistant to accompany him,” said Chang in a Facebook post.

Wong, the former Bukit Assek assemblyman and former Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chief died on June 21, 2014 aged 54 from a brain tumour.

Chang also recalled that after she finished her maiden speech in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in 2016, Masing gave her a big smile and a thumbs-up from his seat across the aisle.

“Despite the political divide, he had from time to time during DUN meetings, encouraged me to speak up for my ‘kawasan’ (constituency). Thank you, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing,” she said in a Facebook post.

Masing passed away earlier today at the age of 72 from complications due to Covid-19. — DayakDaily
