SIBU, July 1: A call has been made for more community leaders to be appointed to serve the people in Sentosa, Salim.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek reasoned that due to the massive size of the area, which has 5,000 households, community leaders are needed to serve the various races, which include the Chinese, Iban, and Malay-Melanau.
“Currently, we only have one community leader for the Malay-Melanau and a Chinese Kapitan, which is not enough.
“I propose to appoint at least two to three community leaders each for the Malay-Melanau and Iban (communities) and Kapitan (for the Chinese).
“We also need one or two Penghulu,” he said when met by reporters at the Majlis Ibadah Korban at Masjid Al-Muhajirin, Kampung Usahajaya Baru, Sentosa, Salim today.
He added that after a discussion with community leaders, they needed to develop a better structure for community leaders in the area. — DayakDaily
