KUCHING, Oct 10: The RM935 million allocation for tourism and culture under Budget 2027 shows not just the government’s confidence in these sectors’ role in driving economic growth and showcasing Malaysia’s unique attractions, but it will also create opportunities for local communities.
Commenting on Budget 2027 that was tabled on Friday (Oct 9), Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said that Budget 2027 addresses various aspects that shape the country’s tourism experience and reflects efforts to ensure the benefits of the sector reach more people.
In addition to promoting the arts, culture, and heritage to boost the Visit Malaysia Year campaign further and encourage more international visitors, he said, the focus also includes improving tourism facilities, revitalising tourism in Langkawi and Labuan, expanding cashless payments to generate income for local communities, and strengthening Malaysia’s position as a regional MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) hub.
“A strong tourism sector does more than attract more visitors. It also brings destinations to life, elevates our heritage and creates opportunities for the people.
“With the support of the industry, communities, and the public, we can turn these efforts into meaningful experiences for visitors and tangible benefits for the nation,” he said in a Facebook post.
The measures form part of the government’s efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s tourism offerings, support local businesses, and attract more international visitors through improved connectivity, facilities, and events. — DayakDaily
