KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9: Villages in Sabah and Sarawak are among six new locations to benefit from expanded essential goods distribution under Budget 2027, backed by a RM250 million allocation to improve access to basic necessities in rural and remote areas.
Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative would include Kampung Terian in Penampang, Sabah, and Kampung Dato’ Godam in Pusa, Sarawak, when he tabled Budget 2027 at Dewan Rakyat today.
The government will also increase the allocation for Rahmah MADANI Sales and Agro MADANI Sales from RM630 million to RM750 million, with a target of 35,000 sales events nationwide.
Of the total, 30,000 events will be held under Rahmah MADANI Sales, covering all state constituencies (DUN), with greater emphasis on rural areas, low-cost housing areas and urban People’s Housing Programme (PPR) schemes.
The initiative will be expanded beyond conventional grocery shops to include vending machines, while Rahmah MADANI wholesale sales will also be organised to support small traders.
Another 5,000 Agro MADANI Sales events will offer fresh agricultural produce, including fish, chicken, vegetables and fruits, at prices up to 30 per cent lower. — DayakDaily
