KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9: The government has agreed to provide one-off special financial assistance of RM1,000 to 38,000 taxi drivers, including rental car drivers, and 15,000 school bus drivers nationwide following the sale of the special ‘H’ number plate series.

According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the government expects to disburse payments next week.

He added that proceeds from the sale of the special number plates had been channelled back to the people through various initiatives.

“University students received RM500 in flight ticket assistance, underprivileged youths were given free B2 motorcycle licence tests, and free helmets were distributed,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 at Dewan Rakyat here today.

Meanwhile, he said his administration, entering its fifth year, will continue to strengthen its reform agenda, including enacting a government-owned entities Bill to tighten governance of entities entrusted with managing public funds and assets.

The Bill will cover government-owned companies and statutory bodies to prevent excesses and scandals from recurring.

The agenda will also include strengthening governance and transparency in public financial management; all loan repayments—including education and business loans financed through operating and development allocations and disbursed directly to federal statutory bodies—must be reused solely for approved purposes and target groups, and working together with government-linked companies (GLCs) and the corporate sector to improve service delivery.

In addition, criminal and evidence laws will be updated, public legal defence strengthened, and victims, children, and vulnerable groups will receive more effective protection.

“The government is studying the establishment of a Malaysian Law Reform Commission to identify outdated laws and gaps in legislation.

“Contract law, the law on the sale of goods and mediation will also be reviewed to ensure disputes can be resolved more quickly.” — DayakDaily
