KUCHING, Oct 9: Civil servants will see their maternity leave eligibility increased to a maximum of 98 days per birth, up from the previous 90 days.
This raises the total cumulative maternity leave throughout a career from 360 days to 490 days.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim added that RM20 million has been allocated to improve childcare centres at government facilities.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, also noted that the lowest civil service pension rate will be raised from RM1,000 to RM1,350 per month.
“This will benefit nearly 59,000 retirees, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) veterans, and derivative recipients,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Kicking off his announcements with a tribute to the 1.6 million civil servants for their dedication in fulfilling the trust of “Serving the Nation” describing them as the driving force behind the MADANI resolve to elevate the nation, Anwar also detailed several major measures.
Allocation to build and maintain quarters, including those for the police, doctors, military, teachers, and firefighters, has been increased to RM2.3 billion, alongside upgrading the Property Management Division to the National Property Department.
ATM family housing will be built in Skudai, Johor, alongside new quarters at the Langkap Immigration Detention Depot in Perak and Papar, Sabah, costing over RM500 million and benefiting nearly 900 personnel.
Allowances for RELA members, Auxiliary Firefighters, Police Volunteers, and Civil Defence Volunteers will also be raised to RM9 per hour for volunteers and RM10.80 per hour for supervisors, backed by an RM339 million allocation benefiting nearly 50,000 volunteers.
He also announced the one-off bulk Ex-Gratia Heir benefit payment is increased from RM20,000 to a maximum of RM50,000, subject to length of service and effective January 1, 2026, alongside monthly ex-gratia heir benefits for workplace accident-related deaths.
In recognition of outstanding officers awaiting promotion due to limited posts, Anwar said the government have also agreed to implement a one-off promotion via the “Khas Untuk Penyandang” for 12,000 management and professional officers. – DayakDaily
