KUCHING, Oct 10: RM25 million has been allocated to improve tourism facilities, including the conservation of UNESCO sites such as the Gunung Mulu National Park, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In tabling Budget 2026 today, Anwar said that this was part of the more than RM700 million allocated to boost Malaysia’s tourism sector.
In addition to improving tourism facilities, RM500 million is to support the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) campaign, as well as RM60 million for promotional funds, marketing initiatives, and the organisation of tourism and cultural events.
“RM50 million has been allocated to support arts and heritage entrepreneurs such as craft makers, batik artists, and weavers in generating income, while another RM50 million is allocated in matching grants to encourage international and charter flights to Malaysia.
“Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has successfully attracted 10 international airlines to Malaysia, including British Airways, Hong Kong Express, and Jiangxi Air,” he said.
At the same time, RM20 million was also allocated to strengthen health tourism programmes under the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC). — DayakDaily
