Budget 2026: 38 new schools to be built, only 2 in Sarawak

KUCHING, Oct 10: Among the 38 new schools to be built next year, only two are in Sarawak namely SK Sri Sarong, Serian and SMK Desa Wira, Padawan.

This is announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when tabling Budget 2026 at the Parliament today.

A total of 10 schools will be built in Johor while three will be built for Melaka, Selangor (10), Penang (1), Sabah (3), Kelantan (2), Pahang (1), Kedah (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), Kuala Lumpur (2) and Putrajaya (2).

Meanwhile, nearly RM2 billion will be allocated to upgrade over 520 dilapidated schools especially in Sarawak and Sabah.

“Nearly RM2 billion ringgit is allocated to upgrade over 520 dilapidated schools, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, in addition to repairing and maintaining all types of schools.

“This includes improving student facilities and staff rooms, following the success of government efforts in upgrading toilets, canteens, and prayer rooms in a short period of time,” said Anwar.

For 2026, the Ministry of Education will receive an allocation of RM66.2 billion compared to RM64.2 billion in 2025. —DayakDaily
