Brothers fined RM3,000 for assaulting bus driver, damaging bus after road accident

KUCHING, July 15: Two brothers were fined RM3,000 each for hurting a bus driver and causing damage to a bus.

Muhammad Naufal Mekai, 26 and Murni Mekai, 32, were hit with the two charges at the Magistrate’s Court.

They pleaded guilty to both charges where Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi sentenced them to a fine of RM1,500 for each charge or in default to three months imprisonment.

According to the first charge, they were found to have intentionally caused hurt to a 63-year-old bus driver, near Jalan Demak Laut, at about 8.10am on June 27.

They were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code as well as Section 427 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same Code for committing mischief on a bus by breaking the its door and causing losses of about RM400.

According to the brief facts of the case, both brothers were unhappy with the victim who was driving the bus on that day and had hit the motorcycle that they were riding on.

They then hit the door of the bus until it was broken and went into the bus, assaulting the bus driver and causing injuries to his head.

Prosecuting Officer ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted while both accused were unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
