KUCHING, Jan 29: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Serian chairman Brolin Nicholsion wants the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to lead in an exemplary manner and be fair to the people regardless of their political inclination.
Brolin in a press statement today, said DAP Serian has received few cases where some of the community leaders do not want to sign any application forms when they know the applicant got the forms from the opposition’s office.
According to him, some ketua kampung or village headmen refused to sign the welfare form just because they got the form from the DAP, and some were even being forced to hang the GPS flag just to make sure their rooftop is being changed.
“This is a misconceived way to get the support from the grassroots to vote for GPS. I hope the GPS can lead by example and let Sarawak be the example of a democratic state in Malaysia,” he said.
Brolin noted, as provided by the Constitution, one has the freedom to choose whoever they want to be their representative and vote for any political parties whether it’s for the Parliament or state assembly.
He pointed out that by forcing someone or holding them on ransom, this is definitely not a democratic action that was supposed to be our pillars in the federation of Malaysia.
“It is the duty of the government of the day to help those in need and not forcing them to choose or support a party, and it is their decision to decide on whoever they want to be their leader.
“I believe Sarawakians are smart voters, they are mature enough to make the decision, so let them vote for whoever they want to be their leader,” he added. — DayakDaily
