KUCHING, Nov 19: The registration of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has finally received approval from the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

According to GPS protem secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, he received the good news when he posed the question to Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during the latter’s winding-up speech at about 4pm just now.

“Muhyiddin said a letter of approval will be issued soon. Indeed, this is good news for GPS,” Nanta told DayakDaily today.

GPS applied to RoS for its registration in early July, following the announcement of its establishment on June 12, this year.

Presently, there are four component parties in GPS – Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Party Raykat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

The Kapit MP said the approval of GPS will allow the four major ruling parties to carry out its development agenda on one platform.

“The approval of GPS is important to us because all the four major parties that are always together in the struggle for Sarawak especially in development will have a common platform.”

“When we decided to exit Barisan Nasional (BN), we have agreed to get together by setting up a local Sarawak coalition party,” said Nanta who had called for a press conference in Putrajaya to release the good news.

He said as of now, there is no decision to recruit anyone on direct membership of GPS and GPS membership will depend on the membership of its four component parties.

“Once we received the letter (of approval) we will embark on an exercise to introduce the logo and to launch the coalition to the public,” said Nanta.

He expects to receive the letter in one or two days’ time. — DayakDaily
