KUCHING, Nov 12: The Northeast Monsoon is expected to begin tomorrow (November 13) and continue until March 2026, with five to seven episodes of continuous heavy rain predicted to occur during the period.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) warned that prolonged heavy rain over several days could trigger flooding in low-lying areas near rivers. Strong and persistent northeast winds may also cause rough seas and elevate sea levels in the South China Sea.
Director General of MET Malaysia, Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, emphasized the importance of staying informed and taking precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall and potential flooding during the monsoon season.
The public is advised to prepare for these weather conditions and remain alert to official updates, advice, forecasts, and warnings issued by MET Malaysia via its website (www.met.gov.my). —DayakDaily
