KUCHING, Dec 23: The Band Lab (Persatuan Wind Orkestra Kuching) is set to stage a landmark live orchestra, ‘The ACG Concert’, at Indoor Stadium, Petra Jaya on Jan 31 next year.
Its president Jesmond Siew described the event as a major milestone for live entertainment in Sarawak.
“Building on the success of An Anime Symphony (2023) and An ACG Symphony (2024), this concert will be Borneo’s largest Animation, Comics, and Games (ACG) live stadium performance.
“The show will feature a 60-piece orchestra, complemented by professional vocalists, dancers, and a 50-piece choir from Dolce Chanticleer,” he said in media release today.
The event is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak.
The Band Lab also announced that Avantgardey will headline the concert, marking the Japanese dance group’s first-ever performance in Borneo.
Renowned for their precise synchronisation, retro school uniforms, and signature bobbed hairstyles, the 17-member Avantgardey will perform their viral choreography accompanied by a live orchestra.
“Securing Avantgardey underscores Kuching’s growing reputation as a cultural hub.
“Their precision and eccentricity perfectly capture the high-octane energy of ACG culture. This isn’t just a concert, it’s a world-class cultural exchange, bringing the best of contemporary Japanese art to the heart of Sarawak,” Siew said.
Fans can look forward to a two-hour spectacular featuring music from hit anime such as Naruto, Haikyuu, and Demon Slayer, alongside classic Studio Ghibli soundtracks from My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Suzume.
With pyrotechnics, cinematic lighting, and a cosplay-friendly atmosphere, the concert promises an unforgettable experience for ACG enthusiasts.
