At a press conference today to announce the inaugural event, Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Roads) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the participants will pass through five villages in the area, which are well known for waterfalls.

The five villages are Kpg Anah Rais, Kpg Sadir, Kpg Sibuang, Kpg Sibakar and Kpg Simuti, which are among the villages under Biannah Association.

“For this event, we will help to promote Padawan, which has several attractive waterfalls and caves as the prime eco-tourism destination in the country,” he said.

For the record, there are 45 caves and 48 waterfalls found in Padawan area.

In addition, Dr Jerip said that host Kpg Anah Rais, which is famous for its longhouse, will also add to the event’s attractiveness.

The event is divided into three categories: 10km, 30km and 50km.

Traditional games (‘sukan rakyat’) such as blow pipe, slingshot, coconut bowling and bamboo stilt-walking will see participants from 10 villages under Biannah Association.

Among those present at the press conference was Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) from Padawan sub-district office Julius Scott Sapong. — DayakDaily
