Kuching, April 1: Aspiring musicians who loves their art are invited to participate in the Borneo Jazz Talent Search 2022.
Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) in a statement today said the talent search is a platform to provide unique opportunity for musicians between the ages of 15 and 30 years from all over Malaysia, Brunei and Kalimantan to participate.
There will be categories namely Jazz and DJ. Call for entry will commence from today (April 1) and submission deadline is set on April 30.
Four winners under “1st Prize”, “2nd Prize”, “3rd Prize” and “Best Original Composition” will not only win cash prizes worth more than RM10,000, but they will be given the opportunity to attend a Master Class by an international headlining band on June 24, at the first day of Borneo Jazz Festival (16th edition).
On top of that, winners get to perform live on June 25 at Borneo Jazz Festival Seahorse Stage.
A jury panel comprising renowned international and Malaysian artists will evaluate participants based on originality, creativity, musicality, stage presence and interactivity.
Interested groups must submit a high-quality performance video of required repertoire and duration, written solo artist or band profile and a high-resolution photo.
All criteria for the band and JD search must be submitted via email to noblacktie2003@gmail.com on or before April 30 and no later than 5pm.
Successful participants will be informed via email.
Criteria for band submission are high quality YouTube video link or p4 of solo/band performance with one original composition, one jazz standard ‘Stella by Starlight’, one funky standard ‘Get On Up’ by James Brown OR bossa-nova standard ‘Corcovado’ by Antonio Carlos Jobim with a duration not exceeding 15 minutes and upload a high-quality video of band performance on YouTube entitled “BJTS2022-Artist name”.
As for DJ search, contestants are encouraged to explore genres of Blues, RnB, Jazz and World music in deciding the repertoire.
Organisers would also like to see contestants showing knowledge of the history of music in general but more specifically, jazz.
The criteria for DJ search are one original composition not exceeding 15mins, one production of a 15-mins mixtape which must include an accurate set list and to upload the track on to Soundcloud entitled “BJTS2022 – Artist name”.— DayakDaily
