KUCHING, Sept 7: Borderland Music Festival 2025 at Sarawak Cultural Village was forced to shut down abruptly last night (Sept 6), leaving many fans frustrated as headliner Darren Styles did not get to perform his set.

In an Instagram post, the festival organisers apologised for the sudden cancellation, saying it was due to “circumstances beyond our control” but did not disclose the clear reason for the decision.

“Tonight was hard for us too. We dreamed of giving you an unforgettable night, we sincerely apologise for tonight’s sudden cancellation.

“We know this caused confusion and frustration, and we’re truly sorry. Your safety and peace come first, and we appreciate your patience and support,” the post read.

The announcement drew a wave of disappointment in the comment section, with many festival goers expressing frustration that they had waited eagerly for Darren Styles’ performance. Some described the night as “unfinished” while others voiced anger at the lack of a clear explanation.

However, several fans also rallied behind the organising team, offering words of encouragement and pledging to continue supporting Borderland in the future, commending the organisers for putting safety first.

Meanwhile, Darren Styles himself took to Instagram to share his side of the story. In a short video on his IG Story, the United Kingdom hardcore DJ and producer was seen behind the DJ decks, ready to start his performance, but said he was told the show was being shut down.

He apologised to fans for not being able to perform, but promised that he will be back in Sarawak in the future.
