KUCHING, Nov 13: Streamlining policies and legal frameworks, enhancing facilitation measures, improving connectivity, and fully harnessing the complementarities of the region are essential steps to make BIMP-EAGA a vibrant investment destination.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan highlighted this at the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Ministers and Senior Officials Meetings at Dusit Thani Hotel in Davao today.
Awang Tengah, who also serves as the Minister in-charge of BIMP-EAGA Sarawak, was appointed as Malaysia’s head of delegation at the 7th Chief Ministers, Governors, and Local Governments Forum (CMGLF).
Key issues raised during the meeting included maritime cooperation, connectivity, energy, trade, human capital development, and border management.
“Robust private sector participation is fundamental to achieving sustained economic development and growth. We affirm our strong support for the active engagement of the BIMP-EAGA Business Council,” he said in a statement.
Awang Tengah stressed that enhancing the region’s investment attractiveness requires a coordinated effort from all member states to reduce regulatory hurdles, boost security, and leverage the unique strengths of each area within BIMP-EAGA. — DayakDaily
