KUCHING, Oct 18: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak has issued a warning to the the public, particularly businesses, about scams involving fraudulent tender offers for the supply of equipment and services using the names of its director-general and director.

Bomba Sarawak acting director Tiong Ling Hii reported that four such incidents have been documented in October alone, where the Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JPBM) name was misused.

“The scammers have employed tactics such as directly contacting suppliers and submitting fake offer letters to lure their victims.

“Fortunately, we have not received reports of any financial losses from the victims, as they have proactively reached out to the Department for verification,” he said in a statement today.

The reported cases involve two companies in Kuching, along with one company each in Sibu and Miri.

The scammers attempted to lure companies with offers to supply and deliver replacement accessories and tools for vehicles for Bomba Simunjan, as well as a similar offer for Bomba Saratok in Sibu and the supply of tyres for Bomba Subis in Miri.

Tiong emphasised that Bomba Sarawak takes this matter seriously, as the department’s name is being exploited for fraudulent activities.

In response, Bomba Sarawak has filed a police report to initiate an investigation and appropriate action.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and not be deceived by any offers for contract supplies, particularly for quotation contracts and direct procurement that use the JBPM name. — DayakDaily
