MARUDI, April 20: The Fire and Rescue Air Unit deployed its AW189 helicopter to deliver almost 1,000kg of food items to villagers in Mulu this morning.
Due to the movement control order (MCO), villagers in the interiors faced difficulties in obtaining food supplies as they are unable to go out to the nearest town.
Marudi fire station chief Maureen Sim said the villagers in Mulu were affected by the MCO because all the twin otter flights that service Miri-Mulu-Miri were temporary halted.
Piloted by Capt Wahyudi Mohd Sayuti and Che Muhammad Azlan Che Mohammad, the crew delivered the food items in two batches.
Maureen, who was also in the flight, said the first flight departed Marudi airport at 10.15am, carrying 450kg food items. They arrived at Mulu around 10.40am. The second flight departed from Marudi at 11.15am with 525kg food items.
“Mulu is only accessible via river (small boats) or air. Therefore, the use of helicopter will enhance Bomba’s delivery mechanism, as food could be delivered faster to the villagers because all flights into Mulu are temporarily suspended during this MCO,” she said. — DayakDaily
