KUCHING, March 29: The body of a technician who fell into Batang Igan near Kampung Bungan Kecil in Mukah on Wednesday (March 26) has been found.

According to TVS, Mukah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Nicholas Belulin said that the body of 30-year-old Saffuan Zaffari was discovered by villagers floating in the river on March 28, nearly 1km from where he fell, at 7.30pm.

On Wednesday at around 2pm, the boat he was on struck driftwood and sank, and he was believed to have been thrown overboard.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation faced significant challenges due to the vast search area and the width of Batang Igan, which made rescue efforts difficult.

The fast-moving water current also contributed to the difficulties in the operation.

In addition to Bomba, the operation was also assisted by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Civil Defense Force (APM), Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS), and villagers. — DayakDaily
