SIBU, May 30: The remains of a teenager who went missing with two others while swimming in Sungai Nanga Tutus yesterday have been recovered.

The body of Trisha Jangok Tommy, 12, was found floating near the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba)’s control post at Tuai Rumah Muja jetty around 2.30pm.

Her body was spotted by the police search and rescue (SAR) team, and her father has confirmed her identity.

The others still missing are Teerince Gong Tommy, 14, and Nurul Syahiera Salam, 13, from Rumah Ligawa.

Yesterday, Bomba’s operations centre (PGO) received the emergency call at 4.10pm, prompting an immediate SAR operation to be launched comprising 10 firefighters from Sg Merah fire station and personnel from the police and Civil Defence Force (APM).

According to one of the victims’ grandmother, the trio headed off to the river with their uncle to do their laundry and thereafter decided to go for a swim. All three of them were nowhere to be seen after that.

According to Bomba Zone 4 operations commander PPgb Luthfil Hadi, today’s SAR resumed at 10.30am using the grappling-iron technique and surface searching between 1km and 5km from the area where they were last seen.

As there is no government integrated radio network (GIRN) around the area, the SAR team could only communicate via mobile phone. — DayakDaily
