SARIKEI, Oct 22: The body of a 72-year-old man believed to have been attacked by crocodile was found by search and rescue (SAR) personnel this morning.
Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) operations centre disclosed that Liong Kheng Onn might have been attacked by crocodile based on the victim’s leg injuries when rescuers discovered his body at one of the river tributaries.
“He was found some 300 meters away from the Bomba control post at 11.40am. The SAR operations led by Sarikei fire station chief PPgB Mahmudin Narudin was carried out by 36 people consisting of firefighters, police, civil defence force and villagers.
“The victim’s body was taken to the control post and handed over to the police at 1.25pm for further action,” the statement revealed.
On Oct 20, Liong failed to return home after a fishing trip at Sungai Rusa, Sungai Mawa Sarikei. This prompted his son Siaw Hua, family and friends to search for him until the next day.
Failing to locate Liong, Siaw Hua lodged a missing person report.
Yesterday, rescuers found Liong’s motorcycle and fishing gear by the river bank.—DayakDaily
