Body of missing man found, believed to be victim of croc attack

Search and rescue operation for Taid Jepit who was reported missing in Nanga Sungai Skrang

BETONG, March 16: The body of a 61-year-old man believed to have been attacked by a crocodile at Nanga Sungai Skrang has been found.

Taid Jepit from Rh Francis Kaong, Nanga Skrang Sri Aman was reported missing after a fishing trip along on March 14.

Sri Aman zone fire chief PgB Ramlan Marajan disclosed that the victim was found at 12.35pm near Kpg Temelan at Sungai Batang Lupar area.


“Today’s second day search and rescue (SAR) operation led by Betong fire chief PPgB Vincent Baling Yabi covered about 6km upstream and downstream river.

“The victim was found floating by villagers in the river some 8km away from where the victim was last seen. Rescuers and their boats could not reach that area due to shallow river condition. However, police personnel were at the scene and they’ve confirmed that the body was the missing person,” Ramlan said.

He added that victim’s both legs were broken.

An eye witness said while fishing on that fateful day, Taid decided to dive in after finding his hook stuck in the middle of the river.

Although Taid could swim, he failed to resurface. — DayakDaily
