Man missing for three days found dead face down near Taman Betek, Kapit

KAPIT, Nov 2: The mystery behind the disappearance of a man who had been absent from work for three days was unraveled when he was found dead in an open area near Taman Betek, Jalan Kapit By-Pass Selirik yesterday evening.

The body of Gelayan Mendan, 35, who worked as a laborer and came from Rumah Apang, Sungai Majau, Kanowit was found by members of the public at around 5.30pm.

Kapit District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Rohana Nanu said, a police team from Kapit Police Station rushed to the location as soon as they received the call.


“Arriving at the location, the police found the body of a man lying face down and believed to have been dead for three days.

“The result of the inspection did not find any identification documents, but the identification of the body carried out by the victim’s brother at Kapit Hospital today confirmed that it was the body of his brother” he said when contacted today.

Commenting further, Rohana said that the victim’s biological brother informed them that they lived together but he did not try to find the deceased as he did not return home often.

Rohana said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Department of Kapit Hospital for an autopsy.

“So far the police still do not know the exact cause of the victim’s death and the case is classified as a sudden death report,” he said. — DayakDaily
