Body of drowning victim in Lubok Antu found

SIBU, Sept 1: The body of a man feared to have drowned while bathing in a river in Lubok Antu last Friday (Aug 30) was found around 8.30am today.

The victim was identified as Mohd Fandi Wong Mohd Awang Wong, 20.

According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body was found by the search and rescue (SAR) team about 500 metres from the last location where the victim was seen.

At 8.46am, the body was brought ashore and handed over to the police for further action.

“The police have requested the victim’s family members to identify the body, and they have confirmed that it was the missing victim that we were looking for.

“The SAR operation ended at 9.30am,” the report said.

Initial reports said that Fandi, from Sibu, was bathing with two friends in Sungai Lubok Subong before the current swept him into the centre of the river.
