Body of 65yo man falling off tugboat near Tanjung Manis found dead

SIBU, Jan 5: A five-day search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 65-year-old man who fell overboard from a tugboat near the Rajang River estuary in Tanjung Manis ended in tragedy today (Jan 5) when his body was discovered by local fishermen.

The victim, identified as Mustafpa bin Abdullah @ Moses Anak Mleng, was reported missing on January 1 after falling from the tugboat Danum 126, which was towing the barge Linau 27 carrying cement.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), at 11.50am, the victim’s family notified authorities that his body had been found by fishermen near Kampung Sungai Murong in the Kabong District.

Later in the afternoon, at 2.40pm, the victim’s remains were transported to Sarikei Hospital for identification and further procedures.

Authorities extended their condolences to the victim’s family and thanked all parties involved in the SAR operation. – DayakDaily
