KUCHING, Dec 10: The body of an 18-year-old man was the last to be discovered, concluding the search for two individuals who drowned after being swept away by strong river currents at Ladang Surai, Simpang Lapok, along Jalan Beluru–Long Teru in Bekenu.
The other victim was a 20-year-old man.
Firefighters from BBP Lopeng received an emergency call yesterday (Dec 9) at 3.10pm and arrived at the scene at 4.25pm to initiate search operations.
According to Operations Commander PBK II Engkabang Jemat, members of the public found both victims about 150 metres from the point where they were last seen after the river’s water level receded.
“Both men were taken back to worker quarters where medical officers confirmed their deaths,” he said in a recent statement.
The bodies have been handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
