Body of 17yo boy feared drowned in Pantai Kampung Gatas in Bekenu found

KUCHING, May 7: The body of a 17-year-old boy who was feared to have drowned in Pantai Kampung Gatas in Bekenu was found after a two-day search and rescue (SAR) operation.

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak operation centre today, the deceased was found by villagers at 9am, about 20 metres from where he was last seen before being swept away by the current.

“After retrieving the body, it was later handed over to the police for further action, and the operation ended at 10am,” it said.

On Saturday (May 6), the victim was swept by a strong current at the beach. He was with three friends.

Two friends managed to save themselves, while villagers rescued the other. — DayakDaily
