KUCHING, Oct 23: There will be a discount of 50 per cent for stall rentals in markets to benefit 10,000 hawkers.

This special assistance under Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang 4.0 (BKSS 4.0) was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg this morning.

“(There will be) a discount of 50 per cent for rental of markets and stalls covering a period of three months up to December 2020.

“This assistance is expected to benefit more than 10,000 hawkers renting market and stalls particularly those under the purview of the local councils. This will cost the Sarawak Government RM0.8 million,” said Abang Johari.

Apart from hawkers, Sarawak Government will provide waiver of permits and licenses fees to traders, hawkers, night market traders and tamu operators.

“The waiver will benefit permits and licensed holders in the various local authorities throughout Sarawak. This will ease the burden of the traders and will cost Sarawak Government RM4.12 million.”

Meanwhile, Sarawak Government will also continue to extend the waiver of rentals to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the retail sectors which are operating on premises owned by government-linked companies (GLCs) such as Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Land Custody Development Authority (LCDA) and Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) for a period of three months until December 2020.— DayakDaily
